SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Gopher Campfire .22 Rimfire Rifle League ---- FREE Fun Shoot

The .22 Rimfire Rifle league will begin its season on May 9, 2012 with a Fun Shoot which is open to the members of Gopher Campfire and their families. This first meeting is a free night, with no requirement to join the league or pay any dues. The purpose of this free shoot is to give everyone a chance to try out the various events and get a feel for what the league is all about.

It is our hope that more Gopher members will bring their sons and daughters out to enjoy the shooting and competition. We want to build the attendance to better utilize the 50 yard facility and improve the fun of shooting competitively.

The league begins in earnest at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16th at which time league dues of $30 per adult, $10 per youth will be required. Each week, there is a different set of targets with varying distances and diverse competitions. There are two rifle divisions, hunter and custom and separate classes for adults and children. Most events require only 15 – 20 minutes to shoot however, most shooters stay longer and shoot just for fun! Though shooting starts at 6:00 pm, each event is available until dark which eliminates the rush to get home from work, eat and drive out to Gopher Campfire. Each event is repeated on subsequent weeks, so shooters only have to attend about one-half of the Wednesdays. And, there is a makeup night at the end of the season in August, just in case a shooter has missed some of the events.

PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING US ON MAY 9TH!!!!

Specific questions about the league may be directed to Dan Calhoun at 612-229-6206.

2009 End of Season Report

The Gopher Campfire .22 rifle league had another good shooting season testing their skills.  The group that makes up the league is small but dedicated bunch consisting of youth, teenagers, and old timers that enjoy a little friendly competition.

The Rifle League started again this year with a fun shoot the end of May to introduce newcomers to the group and provide a little insight into how the league is run.  This fun shoot is open to all at no cost so that they may get to know the group.

This year the league had 2 sections; Unlimited Scoped and Iron sight and youth. The Unlimited Iron sight was small group shooting peep sights and a modified rifle.  The Youth class was primarily shooting Hunter class rifles that are basic hunting .22LR rifle.  Unlimited is for the bull barrel, high magnification style of .22 rifles and was the largest group this year.  Each year the classes change based on the types of rifles people bring to the league.

There were 8 events setup several times throughout the year.  These events range from the 50 foot NRA standing, kneeling, prone to a standing 100 yard paper target shoot and include both paper and knock-down target events.  We try to keep it interesting for both the novice and the experienced shooters.
The league shoots on Wednesday nights and shares the night with the local 4H club.  This works well as they use the pistol pits to shoot at the 50 ft range while we use the 50/100 yd. rifle ranges.  There is always room for more shooters.

There is also a more competitive league that shoots on weekends once a month called the IR50/50 League.  This league draws people from around the region and scores are recorded and posted on the Benchrest Central Web site nationally. We have the honor to share our range with several shooters who rank in the top 25 shooters in the nation.  This league also is divided into several different levels so that newcomers can shoot competitively as well as the seasoned shooter.

The addition of the 50yard range is this year helped increase the flexibility for other shooters at Gopher.  Other members were able to use the 100 yard range without interfering with the league events.  The new range worked great this year.

Overall, the rifle league had a successful year and we a looking forward to another one next year.  Thank you to all the participants.  If you have any questions concerning the Wednesday league, please feel free to contact Dale Ross (320) 587-9392 or Dan Calhoun at (320) 234-6585.  For more information on the IR50/50 League contact Ray Wight at (320) 587-3870

2007 End of Season Report

This year the league had 2 sections; Hunter Scoped and Unlimited. The Hunter scoped was then broken into a youth group and an adult group. Hunter class uses the basic hunting .22LR rifle and is the larger of the groups. Unlimited is for the bull barrel, high magnification style of .22 rifle. The Hunter class keeps the league less expensive and yet provides a good amount of competition.

There were 8 events setup several times throughout the year. Gopher Campfire Rifle League

The Gopher Rifle League is open to all interested shooters who are of legal hunting age and have a .22 caliber rim fire rifle. The primary goal of the League is to bring shooters together for fun and friendly competition. The League shoots on Wednesday nights, May through August, with events starting between 5:30 and 6:00 PM and there will be a Fun Shoot Night May 16th to provide information and allow new shooters to try out the league. The league is divided into 2 main categories, Hunter and Unlimited and then there is a scoped and Iron Sight sub category in each of the two main groups. (Most of the members shoot Hunter Scoped to keep the cost down). Because of the classification system, you will be shooting against other shooters of similar skill level, which means everyone has the opportunity to win. Regardless of how well you do against the other competitors, you can expect your shooting skill to improve over the course of the season.

The Hunter Class is intended to include rifles that are typically used for hunting. This would include factory stock rifles by Winchester, Remington, Marlin, Ruger or any of the numerous other manufacturers. Sporter type modifications to these type rifles also fall within this category, the primary limitations being the barrel dimensions (<0.75 dia.), power of scope (9x) and the trigger pull (>3 lbs).

League membership costs $30.00 for each division. Members are allowed to participate in more than one division, but the membership fee is required for each division. The league membership fee does not include membership in Gopher Campfire Club. All shooters must be members of Gopher Campfire Club. Club annual dues are $30.00/year. You must register and pay on or before your first night of competition shooting. Youth League (hunting age as of the fall of 2007) can shoot adult events for $10.00 per year.

For more information, contact Dan Calhoun at (320) 234-6585 or Dale Ross (320) 587-9392.

Gopher Campfire Rimfire (.22 Long Rifle) Rifle League - The Game

There are several classes of rifles designed to make certain that whatever rifle is available will permit the newcomer to join in the fun. Each week, the competition changes. One week will be 50 yard benchrest, another will be 100 yard offhand, another 3-position at metal silhouettes.

Points are awarded for the number of hits on target. At the end of the season, scores are tabulated and prizes are awarded to the winners of each class. Besides that, we have a lot of FUN! Don't be afraid to come out, there is ample opportunity to "catch up" if you missed a few weeks. We typically shoot two "games" each Wednesday which gives the shooter a chance to make up for a miss.
